Virgo is mutable earth, and the tradition reads it as the sign of discrimination in the original sense: telling one thing from another accurately. It is associated with craft, analysis, health and being useful. Its difficulty is that a faculty for noticing what is not right does not switch off when it is turned inward, which is why the sign has a reputation for anxiety as much as for competence.
