The planets do not move. Where you stand does, and because the houses are built from your horizon, the same chart divides up differently. Free, and nothing is stored.
What a relocation chart is
Your birth chart is a photograph of the sky taken from one spot on Earth at one instant. Two things are recorded in it: where the planets were, and how the sky was divided from where you were standing.
The first is fixed forever. Mars was at nineteen degrees of Leo, and it will always have been. The second is local. The ascendant is the point rising on your horizon, and the midheaven is what was directly overhead: both of which depend entirely on where you were.
So recalculating the chart for another place keeps every planet exactly where it was and rebuilds the twelve houses around a different horizon. Planets shuffle between houses. A Mars that sat quietly in the twelfth at home might land squarely on the tenth somewhere else. That rearrangement is the whole of relocation astrology.
Common questions
Does my birth chart actually change if I move?
No. The planets were where they were at the moment you were born, and nothing alters that. What changes is the frame you read them in: the horizon and the overhead point depend on where you are standing, so the houses shift and the same planets land in different areas of life.
Do I need my exact birth time?
Yes, for this. A relocation chart is almost entirely about the angles, and the angles move about one degree every four minutes. Without a time there is nothing meaningful to calculate. The astrocartography map is more forgiving and will still show you something useful.
Which timezone is used?
The one where you were born, always. Where you are moving to has no bearing on when you were born, and using the destination timezone would compute a chart for the wrong moment entirely, a common and completely invisible error.
Is this the same as astrocartography?
They answer the same question at different scales. Astrocartography shows where your planetary lines fall across the whole world. A relocation chart takes one place and shows the chart in full detail from there. Most people find a promising place on the map and then run a relocation chart for it.
Does moving somewhere make things happen?
This is symbolic interpretation, not prediction. The astronomy is exact and checkable; what a shifted house is said to mean about your life is a different kind of claim, and we keep the two clearly apart.
