The 5th house
The fifth house covers what you produce for its own sake: creative work, play, romance as distinct from partnership, gambling, and children. The connecting idea is expression rather than obligation.

The houses that follow the angles. Read as consolidation: what gets held, kept and built on after something has been started.
What the 5th house covers
The tradition separates the fifth from the seventh carefully, and the distinction is useful. The fifth is the affair, the flirtation, the falling in love; the seventh is the commitment and the contract. A busy fifth house with a quiet seventh describes a well-populated romantic life and no particular urge to formalise any of it.
A planet here describes how you play and what you make. Saturn in the fifth is the placement associated with taking creative work seriously, often to the point of not enjoying it, and with a cautious approach to romance rather than an absent one.
What an empty 5th house means
An empty fifth house does not describe somebody without children or without creativity. The tradition does not read absence in a house as absence in a life.
There are ten planets and twelve houses, so at least two are always empty and usually more like six. An empty house is the normal case, not a deficiency, and the sign on its cusp carries the reading instead.

Houses need a birth time. Signs do not.
Your Sun sign depends only on the date. Your houses depend on the horizon at the moment you were born, and the whole framework rotates by one house roughly every two hours. An hour of error moves half of it.
This is why a Sun-sign horoscope cannot use real houses. It counts them from your Sun sign instead, which is a genuine traditional technique called the solar chart and is an approximation. This site uses it for the daily, weekly and monthly readings and says so on each of them; the transit calculator uses your real houses when you give it a time, and withholds them when you do not.
