☌ Conjunction

Sun conjunction Mars

Self and will are the same thing. Read as courage, competitiveness and a low tolerance for being told to wait. The traditional caution is that anger and identity are hard to separate here, so criticism lands as attack.

What these two are about together

Identity and drive. What you are becoming, and the force you are willing to use to get there. The tradition treats this as the pair that decides whether somebody acts on their own behalf.

What a conjunction does

A conjunction is the tightest relationship in a chart: two planets sitting at effectively the same point in the zodiac, rising, setting and moving together. The tradition does not read it as good or bad on its own. It reads it as fusion. Whatever the two planets each govern stops being two separate concerns and starts being one, and it is often the placement a person is least able to see in themselves, because there is no distance from which to look at it.

How it reads

Self and will are the same thing. Read as courage, competitiveness and a low tolerance for being told to wait. The traditional caution is that anger and identity are hard to separate here, so criticism lands as attack.

In practice

Strongest of the five, and the most dependent on which two bodies are involved. A conjunction of two comfortable planets is usually experienced as a natural talent; a conjunction of two difficult ones is usually experienced as a single unavoidable subject that keeps coming round.

What to watch for

The absence of separation. Whatever these two do, they do at once, which makes it hard to tell which of the two is driving.

The two planets

Sun: Identity, vitality and what you are becoming

Mars: Drive, anger and how you go after things
