Which sign are you most like?

Ten questions, no email, no account. Most quizzes like this run on a scoring table somebody made up. This one uses what a sign is actually made of: an element and a modality, four times three, which is exactly twelve. The tally is printed with the answer, and then you can check it against your real chart.

Why this is not a scoring table

The usual build for a quiz like this is a set of questions whose options carry hidden weights toward twelve outcomes, and the honest description of that is that somebody made up a table. It works, it is shareable, and there is no answer to why you got Virgo beyond that the numbers said so.

A sign is not an arbitrary label with traits attached to it. It is exactly two things, and the tradition has been explicit about it for two thousand years: an element, which is what you run on, and a modality, which is what you do with it. Four elements times three modalities is twelve, and those twelve are the signs. Aries is not cardinal fire as well as being Aries. Cardinal fire is what Aries is.

So this measures the two axes and the sign falls out of the pair by arithmetic. Every option above scores exactly one value on one axis, which is why the result can be shown as a tally rather than a verdict.

  • It measures two things. Six questions find your element, meaning fire, earth, air or water, and four find your modality, meaning cardinal, fixed or mutable. Four elements times three modalities is twelve, and those twelve combinations are the twelve signs: Aries is cardinal fire, Taurus is fixed earth, and so on all the way round. Nothing is hidden. The tally is printed with your result.

  • No, and it is not trying to be. Your sign is computed from the position of the Sun at the moment you were born, and no set of questions can reach that. This measures how you answered ten questions today. Roughly one time in twelve the two will agree by chance, and the second half of the page will tell you whether yours is one of them.

  • Probably not. The most common outcome is that the sign the quiz lands on is somewhere in your chart other than the Sun: on your Ascendant, which is how you come across, or on Mars, which is how you go after things. Enter your birth details and the page will say which. If it appears nowhere at all, the page says that too rather than inventing a reason.

  • Yes, all of them, which is worth saying because a quiz built on an invented scoring table usually cannot reach some of its own outcomes. Every combination of an element and a modality is a real sign, so there is no result this quiz can produce that does not exist and none it can never produce.

  • It is a good way into the twelve signs and a poor way to learn about yourself. Ten questions cannot know somebody. What it can honestly do is hand you one sign to read properly and then show you what your actual chart says, which is more use than a list of traits.
