Numerology

Your numbers, with the working

Numerology reduces a birth date and a name to single digits by stated rules. Every number below shows the arithmetic that produced it, so you can disagree with a step rather than with the answer.

All you need for three of the six.

The name on the birth certificate, by convention. Adds three more numbers.

Nothing is sent anywhere. This is a few additions and they happen in your browser.

The six numbers

Life pathYour birth date
The best known of the numbers and the one most systems treat as central. It uses only the date, so it is the one number nobody can get wrong about themselves.
ExpressionEvery letter of your full birth name
Also called the destiny number. Uses the name on the birth certificate rather than the one in use now, which is a convention rather than a rule and one worth knowing about before comparing with another site.
Soul urgeThe vowels in your name
Also called the heart's desire. Read as what somebody privately wants, as distinct from what they do.
PersonalityThe consonants in your name
Read as the part other people meet first, which is the numerological equivalent of a rising sign.
Birthday numberThe day of the month you were born
The simplest of them. Read as a particular talent rather than as a whole direction.
Personal yearYour birth day and month, plus the current year
The only one that changes. It moves through a nine year cycle, and it is the closest numerology gets to a forecast.

service · teaching · self-sacrifice

How much weight to give this

Less than astrology, and for a specific reason. Astrology is reading a real physical arrangement of real bodies, whatever you make of the interpretations. Numerology is reading the spelling of a name and the notation of a date, both of which are human conventions that could have been otherwise. Somebody born the same moment in a different calendar gets different numbers and the same chart.

The modern system also dates from the early twentieth century, largely from L. Dow Balliett and Juno Jordan, whatever is claimed about Pythagoras. The letter values here are the Pythagorean table, which is the common one; the Chaldean system uses a different table and gives different answers.

It is included here because it does what everything else on this site does: takes an input, applies a stated rule, and shows the result with its working. That is also why you will not find angel numbers on this site. There is no input to compute from, so a page about them could only assert, and asserting is the one thing this site tries not to do.
